Son Marroig sits on the cliffs of Mallorca’s northwest coast, between Deià and Valldemossa. Its white marble gazebo looks straight down onto Sa Foradada, the rock with a hole in it, and on a clear evening the sun drops into the sea right behind your ceremony.

Our take

This is one of the few venues in Spain where the view does the decorating for you. Couples who choose it usually want a small-feeling ceremony with a very big horizon. The estate once belonged to Archduke Ludwig Salvator, and the house is now a museum, so the atmosphere is calm and a little old-world rather than glossy.

It works best for ceremonies and an aperitivo. Most couples then move to a nearby finca or restaurant for dinner and dancing, because amplified music on the estate ends early. Plan for that transfer from the start and it becomes part of the day, not a compromise.

Photographer’s tip

Book the ceremony 60–75 minutes before sunset. You get soft, warm light on faces during the vows and still have the gold for portraits on the cliff path afterwards.

Best light & timing

The gazebo faces west, so the light is behind the sea for most of the afternoon. Before 18:00 in summer it is bright and contrasty; the magic starts about an hour before sunset.

Photo spots

  1. The marble gazeboThe classic. We shoot it from the lower terrace so the sea fills the frame behind you.
  2. Cliff path to Sa ForadadaTen minutes of walking for wind, long grass and the rock arch in the distance.
  3. The lemon-tree terraceShade at midday, perfect for family photos when the sun is still high.
  4. Stone stairs by the museumLovely for the getting-ready-to-ceremony walk and quiet moments with parents.
  5. Drive along the Ma-10If you have a vintage car, five minutes on this road at golden hour is worth it.

Practical tips

Music and timing

Amplified music on the estate usually ends around 22:00 (check the current rules). Most couples hold the ceremony and cocktail here, then move to dinner nearby.

Guests and transport

The road is narrow and winding and parking is limited. Book coaches from Palma or Sóller and give guests a clear pick-up time.

Wind and plan B

The cliffs catch the wind in spring and autumn. Choose a veil you’re happy to see fly, and agree a sheltered terrace as a backup.
